P.O.D. Split With Guitarist, Announce Replacement
February 19, 2003P.O.D. have parted ways with founding member and guitarist Marcos Curiel. Curiel is said to have left the band a few weeks ago to start a new project — tentatively dubbed THE ACCIDENT EXPERIMENT — with members of a local San Diego band called SPRUNG MONKEY.
The news of Marcos' departure came via a letter to fans by lead singer Sonny who wrote, "It saddens me to say that Marcos is no longer with P.O.D. As some of you may have already heard, Marcos has chosen to pursue his own vision apart from P.O.D. Never have we imagined P.O.D. without him, but we now know this vision is bigger than the four of us. I feel that there are still so many good things in store for those of us who have put our lives on the line for what we believe in."
Sonny also announced that the band are currently working with former LIVING SACRIFICE axeman Jason Truby. "Coming along side of us is a long time friend and talented musician and songwriter, Jason Truby. He brings an excitement and a fire to the table that will take P.O.D. to the next level. Through great challenges come great rewards and we're more confident now than ever of where we are going.
According to Sonny, yesterday's news about P.O.D.'s contribution to "The Matrix: Reloaded" soundtrack having been selected as the set's first single may have been premature. "Currently we are writing the lead single for 'The Matrix: Reloaded'," he wrote. "We will soon begin writing our third full length record for Atlantic Records."
That set will be the follow-up to 2001's "Satellite" which debuted at No. 6 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Sonny closed the letter on a positive note. "Please continue to keep P.O.D. and Marcos in your prayers. All our Love is yours. Be blessed. Sonny."
